Remembering Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller

Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller proudly served the community of Santa Cruz County since 2006 when he was hired by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller was lost to his family and community on June 6, 2020. Damon was a beautiful person who cared most about his family. He leaves behind a wife and the loves of his life Carter, their 2 year old son and Lucia, born June 2020.

His peers express that “he was incredibly patient.  Gentle in a way that is rare in this world, but with the rock steady confidence of a person who knows what the hell they are doing in almost everything they encountered.”

A few words from Sarah Clark, Settlement Assistant: Damon and my husband, Chris, worked closely together over the past 14 years at the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. He was the best of the best – always had a smile on his face, was so kind and always willing to help in any situation.

A stunning, hand-crafted flag has found a home in the ARS lobby as a constant reminder of Sergeant Gutzwiller’s everlasting memory and bravery. Click here to visit Flags of Valor and learn about their mission.
